+ What should I expect? What is the schedule for each weekend?

This program is a progressive immersion into the heart of yoga and this evolutionary practice. We’ll explore yoga’s roots through philosophical and historical discussions, workshops introducing us to Ayurveda and the subtle body, how to activate and engage lines of energy, chanting, ceremony, open circle discussions, along with daily practices designed to take you out of your comfort zone and towards an open space of liberation.

We'll spend each day exploring the full spectrum of what it means to be a yogi: dropping into self-study and inquiry, open dialogues about ethics and how to live your practice, anatomy and alignment labs so you intimately know how to embody the asanas and safely lead others.

Besides opening and closing weekend, every weekend will more or less have a similar flow. Our hybrid format means that we will be meeting in person outside (weather permitting), in the newly renovated Divinitree studio, as well as online each weekend.

In general, we will meet:

Saturdays 10-1pm, break for lunch, then meet from 2-7pm.

Sundays 10-2:30pm, break, then meet from 4-7pm

The two Fridays we'll meet that aren't part of our opening or closing weekends will be 9:30-12pm, break, then 1-5pm.

Some weekends, depending on the material and flow, we'll end or begin 30 minutes earlier.

+ What are the time commitments outside of the training weekends?

You will be asked to commit to a daily self led practice throughout the training + asked to attend and observe 10 public classes at Divinitree.

Each week you'll have homework. Homework will be a combination of reading assignments and reflection prompts. As the course progresses, you'll be asked to practice teach to friends and loved ones as well. This adds up to about 1-2 hours for every weekend we meet, depending on how in depth you want to go for the assignments.

+ What if I have to miss one of the days?

This is a registered Yoga Alliance 200 hour school. This means that our time together is essential for your certification and graduation. So as much as you can, please prioritize this work and your commitment to yourself.

That said, we know things come up. Our team will always work with you to make sure if you need to miss a day, you will be caught up and supported. You'll be asked to make up the missed hours doing extra homework and assignments.

BONUS: one of the beautiful things about the hybrid format is that a lot of the content is either also recorded from past cycles, or can be live streamed. This will be our 3rd hybrid training! We can even live stream and record an in-person workshop, whether it's held outside or indoors. All of this recorded material will be stored in an online learning management system. It's pretty cool.

+ I'm not sure I can make all the Friday sessions?

No worries! For the first Friday we meet, it'll be our opening day. This is a really powerful initiation and opportunity to set intentions together, so if you can definitely prioritize coming this day.

The two Fridays in the middle of the program are there more than anything for overflow. The intention for these days is to connect, go over any questions, review, get everyone caught up, on the same page, and practice together. As needed, we can record these sessions for those who can't make it.

The final Friday will be during our closing weekend. If you're unable to make it, please just let us know and we'll schedule your final class and project for either that Saturday or Sunday instead.

+ How does the hybrid format work?

One of the big questions we've been asking ourselves is how to keep sharing these teachings in a relevant, accessible, and transformative way?

This practice has always evolved to meet the current needs of the practitioner, and now is no different. Last year was our lemonade, make it work moment. But now, even with the world opening back up, we’ve decided we're never going back to the old way of doing things. We have developed a new, immersive, hybrid, up-leveled format for this training program that’s here to stay.

  • Every weekend will be a combination of in-person sessions held outside, as well as indoors at the beautiful remodeled Divinitree Yoga Studio. When not in the studio, we’ll meet at the park, on the beach, and go on nature meditation hikes around Santa Barbara.
  • While the majority of the program will be live in-person, these live session will be supplemented with online content. We’ve found this helps accommodate different learning styles and schedules.
  • As needed, we will also be live-streaming and recording in-person workshops and sessions for those out of town or who have work conflicts. After years of running this training program, we’ve found this hybrid schedule allows for flexibility as well as supporting the learning process.
  • All online sessions will be saved and organized online in a learning management system for reference to reinforce live teachings and study. One of the advantages of this library of online content is you can pause, rewind, review and replay for an enhanced learning experience.
  • 200 hours is a lot of content and we dive deeper than most trainings. It’s helpful to be able to re-watch and go back over material. Forget what the scapula are doing in downdog? Check out one of the in-depth recorded alignment and applied anatomy labs from our asana workshops, then we’ll meet in person to assess, ask questions and practice teach together.

+ How many classes are online vs in-person

We are planning on 75% of the program be in-person and 25% be online. At this point there is still a lot of uncertainty as the world slowly re-opens, but we are ready to show up fully and adjust as needed. Our hope is to have at least half of our in-person classes outside and the rest in the beautiful newly renovated Divinitree studio.

+ Do we really start teaching on the first weekend?

YES! And even though that might be a super scary and intimidating thought, know you'll be supported in taking this leap. From day one you'll learn how to structure your own vinyasa flow class and begin to develop your own practice.

One of the things we saw lacking in a lot of the teacher training programs out there was the amount of time trainees spent actually teaching vs. sitting in lectures and discussing teaching. We hop right into it and do the thing we're here to do! Every weekend together we'll spend time discussing and exploring the rich nuances of yoga and practice teaching and offering from an informed, authentic place.

+ Do you have to want to teach yoga to take this training?

Absolutely not! While you'll learn all the tools to do everything from develop your own unique classes to running your own yoga business, you are not expected to teach unless you feel called to do so. That said, we've had many past trainees join with no intention of teaching, then end up quitting their job and teaching full time!

This is truly a journey of self discovery and self empowerment. You choose what expression that takes.

Many decide to join this training because they are looking for community on the same path. Others are wanting to learn more about the spirituality, mythology, history and philosophy of yoga. Or are wanting to learn more about how to deepen their own practice and learn about applied fundamental anatomy and biomechanics. We do it all!

+ What if I haven’t really been doing too much yoga lately?

That's totally fine! We'll break it down together starting with mountain pose and breathing fundamentals, and slowly build from there.

It is helpful to have some familiarity with a vinyasa flow based practice, but you don't need to be doing one armed handstands to do the training.

And spoiler alert: the physical practice is just one of the many limbs of the greater yoga tradition.

+ What about Covid?

We are committed to everyone's safety throughout this program. We pray that cases decrease and hope that restrictions continue to lessen, but are planning on assessing as things unfold.

We will follow all local and federal health and safety protocols throughout the training. In the past we have practiced social distancing, masking when not on our own mats, and all committed to community safety agreements so that everyone felt safe and supported.

+ How many people are in the training?

Personal connection and being truly seen is essential to this program's training experience. We always keep our trainings small to foster a supportive, intimate experience. The training is typically between 10-18 participants.

+ When does registration close?

Registration for the program closes September 24th. But the past 2 trainings have sold out and had waitlists, so we'd suggest signing up sooner than later to secure your spot.

+ I applied for the BIPOC scholarship, when will I hear back about whether I was awarded it or not?

Thanks for applying! We will be announcing the recipient of the BIPOC scholarship after applications close on September 1st.

+ Are payment plans available?

YES! We believe that yoga is for everyone. This practice, this work and experience of in-depth study, community and self discovery are essential. We strive to keep costs low and always offer payment plans to make these life changing experiences as financially accessible as possible.

  • After making your initial $500 deposit, our team will contact you directly to see whether you’d like to set up a payment plan or not. From there we’ll set up a monthly installment schedule for the balance.
  • You decide how many installments you’d like to divide the balance into, as well as whether it is monthly, bi-monthly or weekly.
  • After we decide on what payment plan installments work for you, we’ll set you up with automatic reminders through our online payment system.
  • Please note that $150 payment plan fee will be added to your total to help offset accounts payable, additional fees, and administrative costs.
